SOUTH CAROLINA'S STORY: “Good baseball is good for the community,” said Nekie Dixon, the president of the Community AllStar Baseball League and coach of the Upstate Astros. Carl Edwards, Jr., the first black pitcher for the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, started pitching in the Community AllStar Baseball League when he was 15.
